Out of Band Access or OOB is a security technique for providing backdoor access to critical network devices as well as removing management control of those devices from the production network. In the event a threat actor or a disgruntled employee gains access to the production network, there is no way they will be able to access the management interfaces of critical business systems. The only means by which anyone can gain access to these devices is through a VPN connection to a fully private network who’s sole purpose is for the management of your critical infrastructure devices. The devices are in effect hidden from plain sight.
